Nathaniel "Nat" Maltman grew up in The Gorbals, the crowded tenements of the Scottish industrial and ship-building city of Scotland. He worked in the famous shipbuilding world of Harland-Wolfe on the banks of the River Clyde. He came to the United States in 1957. He loved all animals and was a protector of all things wild. He was married and enjoyed coaching youth soccer. He also was a drummer in the Campbell Pipe Band in San Diego for several years. His wife preceded him in death. He was a proud member of the House of Scotland in San Diego's Balboa Park for many years, and served as its trustee for a while at age 82. He lived in a mobile home in a mobile home park in El Cajon in his later years. He, his sister and her husband often spent a part of their Sunday at the House of Scotland, which is steeped in the culture of their youth. They all loved to eat at Arby's and were very sweet folks. They all had grown up in Glasgow's tough tenements. Nat and his relatives are all fondly remembered and missed. A Celebration of Life was held for Nat on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at The House of Scotland in Balboa Park.
