The four Acomb brothers were willow basketweavers at the corner of Orion and Ridge Avenue in Pleasant Ridge, Hamilton County, Ohio. Prior to moving to Pleasant Ridge, Joseph Acomb, the oldest of the four Acomb brothers, was a famous bandmaster in New York and Baltimore. His "Captain Acomb's National Cornet Band," playing at balls, temperance events and grand dinners, was very popular.

Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian Cemetery confirmed that Joseph Acomb is one of nine Acomb family members buried in Plot B36. The plot was purchased in April 1867 and was jointly owned by Joseph Acomb 1823-1901 and his brother Charles William Acomb 1828-1903.
