Zada M. Snook, 96, a longtime resident of Vernonia, died Saturday morning, Sept. 27, 2003, at the Mulberry House II Adult Foster Care Home in Forest Grove, Ore.

Family Graveside Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Vernonia Memorial Cemetery, 2080 Bridge St. in Vernonia, Ore. A Memorial Service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Vernonia High School Gymnasium, 399 Bridge St. in Vernonia, with Pastor Max Snook, of the St. Helen's Bible Church, officiating.

There will be a potluck reception for family and friends, following the services, at the Vernonia Community Church, 957 State Ave., Vernonia.

Visitation will from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, and from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the funeral home in Vernonia.

Zada was born May 7, 1907, in Overton, Neb., the daughter of Kendall and Ida (Cheney) Dustin. She was raised and received her education in Overton, graduating in the Overton High School Class of 1925.

She was united in marriage to Virgil Lewis Snook on Aug. 17, 1926, in Overton.

Following their marriage they resided in Overton until 1933, when they moved to Vernonia, where she had resided since. Zada was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil on March 18, 1990, after celebrating over 63 years of marriage.

She was an active member of the Vernonia Community Church, having taught Sunday School classes for over 30 years. Zada also taught Bible classes for over 20 years and directed a Happy Hour Bible Club for kids, sponsored by the Union Gospel Mission.

Among her special interests she enjoyed crocheting, needlework, gardening and canning.

Zeda was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Ellis, Luther, and Mearl Dustin; and three sisters, Myra Dustin, Laura Bird, and Dollie Dustin.

Survivors include her four sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin E. Snook, of Yorba Linda, Calif.; Russell R. and Dorothy Snook, of Cornelius, Ore.; Joe L. and Marge Snook, of St. John's District of Portland, Ore.; and Pastor Max R. and Donna Snook, of Deer Island, Ore.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty J. and Kenneth Jacobs, of Yacolt, Wash., and Alice A. and Everett Brown, of Vernonia, Ore. Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that contributions in her memory be made to the Zada M. Snook Memorial Fund, c/o Nehalem Valley Bible Church, P.O. Box 267, Vernonia, Ore., 97064, or to Washington County Hospice, 427 SE 8th Ave., Hillsboro, Ore., 97123.
