Private services were held for Hal S. Andrus of Eugene, who died Dec. 4 of age-related causes. He was 98.
Andrus was born March 19, 1906, in Range, to Grosvenor and Christina Miller Andrus. He married Dorothy Johnson on April 9, 1928, in Hood River. She died in 1982. He married Leona Weatherly on June 27, 1991.
At age 12, he hired out on his first cattle drive. At age 19, he was contracted to haul lumber in his own truck. He built and operated sawmills and designed, built and repaired sawmill equipment.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and beekeeping.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Stephen of Vashon, Wash., and Cecil of Boise; a daughter, Margaret Gardner of Redmond; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
West Lawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Eugene is in charge of arrangements. Burial is at West Lawn Memorial Park.
