James McNichols Bard, for years a popular resident of this county, died Monday, October 10th, at his home at Lake Worth. He had long been in failing health, and suffered greatly from having both limbs amputated in the last two years.The deceased was born in 1872 in St. Augustine, where his parents resided; his father, the late Col R. W. Bard, being in command of the army post there. When ten years ago he came with his parents to Putnam County, and for years Norwalk was the family home. He served in the Spanish-American War, having enlisted with the company from Putnam County. During his long residence in this county, he was active in political affairs and for a time was a member of the County Democratic Committee. He moved to Lake Worth in 1922. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Winifred W. Bard; one daughter, Mrs. Harry Rogers of Georgetown, S.C.; one son, Robert W. Bard; three sisters, Miss Sarah Bard, Mrs. M. B. Willmott and Mrs. James Gale, and one brother, Harvey Hyatt Bard, all of Palatka.Funeral services were held at the Smith Funeral Parlors, Lake Worth, last Thursday, with the Lake Worth Post of Spanish War Veterans in charge. The officers of the Post acted as pallbearers.Interment was in Palm Beach Cemetery. (Palatka Times-Herald Obituary dtd Friday, 21 Oct 1938.)
