Businessman and politician. A Democrat, he served terms in the Vermont House and Senate. He was the party's nominee for governor in 1856, 1857, and 1858. As a businessman, he became a prominent railroad executive and served as president of the Connecticut and Passumpsic Rivers Railroad and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway.
