Shinnston, WV - Vernard H. Clevenger, 69, of Boston Heights, Wilsonburg community, died at 4:45 AM, Tuesday, February 21st at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center Clarksburg, following an extended illness.
He was born in Gilmer County, a son of the late Coleman Clevenger and Esta McDonald Clevenger.
Surviving are his wife Emma Starkey Clevenger; five daughters, Mrs. Jimmy (Shirley) Higginbotham, Mrs. Dale (Ina) Grimes, Mrs. Nancy Nicholas, Mrs. Connie Cochran, and Joan Udell, all of Clarksburg; one son, Ronald H. Clevenger, West Milford, one brother Paul Clevenger, Wallace, four sisters Mrs. Opal Powers, Dola, Mrs. Beulah Stutler, Clarksburg, Mrs. Orval (Freda) Hardbarger, Bridgeport, and Mrs. Texie Cunningham, Clarksburg; 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter and one sister.
Mr. Clevenger retired from Grafton Coal Company. Served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific theater operation during World War II. He was a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church, and the Disabled American Veterans, Clarksburg.
