James Melvin Longcor, 81, of Des Moines, Iowa, died on March 8, 2021. A small private service will be held to honor his life.
Jim grew up in Bondurant, Iowa, and graduated from Bondurant High School. He completed a four-year apprentice program for sheet metal and was a member of Local 45 for over 60 years. Jim served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1957 to 1965. He enjoyed serving on the March of Dimes Board and was a member of the King David Masonic Lodge.
Jim is survived by his wife, Janet; sons, Kevin (Susan) and Kenten (Jennifer); five grandchildren: Karisa (James) Hofer, Mitchell, Karter (Jessie), Andrew, and Kylie; along with great-granddaughter, Arlee Hofer.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Darlene Longcor.
Interment of cremains will follow the service at the Memorial Garden, St. James Lutheran Church, Johnston, Iowa.
His two sons brought Jim immeasurable pride and joy. Motorcycles provided one more avenue to spend time together as a family. Jim loved motorcycles and spent many hours outside of work restoring, riding, and racing them. His partnership with Janet was a special source of support and companionship throughout over 60 years together.
