Prime Minister of Sweden. He served as prime minister from February 6, 1888 to October 12, 1889. Prior to becoming prime minister, he attended the Royal War Academy in Stockholm in 1837 and joined the Göta artillery regiment. He would make a career of the military, attaining the rank of lieutenant general. His early political activities included Governor of Gotland from 1858 to 1862 and Over Governor of Stockholm 1862 to 1874. He became a member of Sweden's legislature in 1847 and served until 1874 and again from 1887 to 1894. He then served as Swedish ambassador in Germany from 1874 to 1886. He then became prime minister. He is best remembered for his international relations, reducing the budget deficit, building railways and improving the country's defense.
