Roger E. Francis, 80, of 1027 Beckford St. died at 7 a.m. today at the Jameson Memorial Hospital [New Castle, Lawrence county, Pennsylvania] following an illness of three months.

He was born in Morristown [east Swansea, Glamorganshire], Wales, Dec. 28, 1839, to the late Rev. Thomas and Mrs. Elizabeth (Cadogan) Francis.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Thompson) Francis, whom he married in 1912.

Also surviving area daughter. Mrs. Marian Eckleberger of New Castle; a sister, Mrs Arthur J. (Mildred) Lacey of Pinehurst, N.C.; and two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Mr. Francis was a retired clerk for the Pennsylvania Railroad Co. where he had worked for 50 years. He was a member of the Epworth Methodist Church, the Apollo Club and past secretary of the Weingartner Sunday School Class.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Dr. Thomas Francis and Dr. Herbert Francis; a sister, Mrs Blanche Allen.; and a son, Richard, who died in 1950.

Friends may call at the Howard L. Reynolds Funeral Service, 909 Adams St., from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

A service will be conducted at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Jackson Parson of the Epworth Methodist Church.

Interment will be in Oak Park Cemetery.
