As a young wife and mother, she lived and raised her family in Mt. Vernon, New York. After retiring in New York,
she relocated back to Burlington. She joined New Covenant United Holy Church, and served humbly on the Mother's Board. She served fraternally, in years past as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mother Ricks leaves two grandchildren: James Stephens, Jr. (Marilyn) and Darlene Stephens; one great- grandson: James Stephens, III (Emily); a brother: John S. Alston as well as many dear and loving nieces and nephews other relatives and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Robert Ricks; a daughter: Kay Frances Ricks Stephens and her husband James Stephens, Sr. as well as her siblings: Saunders Alston, James Alston, George Alston, Joel Alston, Clarence William "Bill" Alston, Cornelius Alston, Margaret Lee Alston Smith, Nathaniel H. Alston, Thomas Earl Alston, Mary Ruth Alston Gant and Lenora Elizabeth Alston Robinson.
