LOUIS A. BUNNING SR., 87, FATHER OF JIM BUNNING, RETIRED EXECUTIVE


Louis A. Bunning Sr., the 87-year-old father of Rep. Jim Bunning, R- Southgate, died Sunday evening at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South after a long illness.

The elder Bunning, who had been retired for years from the ship ladder manufacturing business, spent most of his life in Southgate and then Carrollton. He was an executive with the Rich Ladder Co. in Cincinnati, and the H.B. Rich Co. in Carrollton. He was listed in the 1967 and 1968 editions of "Who's Who in Commerce and Industry."

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Gladys Best, who died Jan. 23, 1987.

Mr. Bunning was living in Villa Hills at the time of his death.

In addition to Rep. Bunning, the elder Bunning is survived by two other sons, Robert Bunning of Orangeburg, S.C., and Louis A. Bunning Jr. of Cincinnati.

He is also survived by his sister, Sister Benedict of Madonna Manor, Villa Hills; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bunning lived in Southgate for years before eventually moving to Carrollton. He was heavily involved in a variety of charitable causes and was active in the parishes of St. Therese in Southgate, where he organized the Dramatics Club, and St. John's in Carrollton.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. at St. Therese. Burial will follow at St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas.

Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Madonna Manor, 2344 Amsterdam Road, Villa Hills.
