HELEN WILLIAMS
Dr. Helen E. Williams Of Wilmington, clinical psychologist, died on Sunday April 16th, 2000. She was 85. Born in Stantonsburg, NC the daughter of Rep. Geo. Short and Helen (Heinzer) Williams, she received a B.A. from Randolph-Macon College in 1936 and M.A. and Ed.D. from Columbia University in 1943 and 1945. From 1945-48, she served as a psychologist / psychotherapist for the Westchester Co. (NY) Children's Association, and from 1948-50 she served as in the same capacity for the Child Guidance Association of Pinellas County, FL. Returning to New York, she served as Psychologist for the US Naval Hospital, St. Albans LI, NY; Psychologist for the New Lincoln School (NYC), Chief Psychologist (outpatient) NY Hospital; Assistant Dean and Director of Counseling for the New School of Social Research and Senior Psychologist for St. Vincent's Hospital (NYC). In 1966 she returned to Wilmington where she was active in private practice for many years. She was a fellow of the American Psychological Association and a member of numerous other professional associations. She was also a member of Pi Lambda Theta, Kappa Delta Pi and the Congressional Club. Dr. Williams is survived by her nephews, John D. and Michael Williams of FL; nieces, Michelle Hinely and Denise Egten of FL; and numerous friends.
