William Arnold was born in Harwood, Canada and raised on his father's farm. As a young man, he traveled throughout the Canadian Northwest Territory with his brother James. He came to New York State about 1915 and to Detroit in 1916. He became a plasterer and married Helen Perdue (9/15/1893), on October 29, 1924. They lived in Detroit and had two children, Dorothea Agnes and William Donald.
