STROOCK--Mark E., former Senior Vice President and Director of Corporate Relations at Young & Rubicam Inc. died March 4, 2018. He was 95 years of age. He retired from day-to-day work at Young & Rubicam in 1987 but continued as an active consultant to the agency up until 1998. His work at Young & Rubicam included press relations, government relations, internal communications, and public service activities. In addition to being a Senior Vice President of Young & Rubicam, which he joined in 1956, he had been a member of the agency's US Board of Directors. At his death he was a member of the National Commission of the Anti-Defamation League. Before joined Young & Rubicam, Mr. Stroock had been a writer for Time Magazine, Barron's and the Hartford Courant. While working with Young & Rubicam, he supervised its public service accounts, among them: The United Negro College Fund, The National Urban League, The Peace Corps, Covenant House, The President's Committee on Mental Retardation and The President's Committee on Nutrition. A lifelong Democrat, in 1964, he organized the Public Information Office for what was the called The War on Poverty, run by R. Sargeant Shriver, later the Office of Economic Opportunity. He had been Vice Chairman of the Board of Covenant House, Chairman of the Public Relations Committee of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, a member of its Committee on Government Relations, and a member of the Committee on External Affairs of the National Urban League. He had also been a Trustee of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, served as a member of the Board of the Friends of the Music and Theater Collection of the Museum of the City of New York, had been a member of the Communications Committee of the United Negro College Fund, a member of the Cooperative Education Commission of the Board of Education of the City of New York and a former board member of both the Hawthorne Cedar Knolls School and The Jewish Board of Guardians. A graduate of Horace Mann School in New York City, he held a B.A. degree from Bard College. He served as a Sergeant in WWII. Mr. Stroock's first wife, Hanna Eiseman Stroock, died in May of 2003. They were married for 58 years. His second wife, whom he married in 2012, is the famed jazz pianist, the late Barbara Carroll. His is survived by a son, Mark E. Stroock III, two grandchildren, Tracey S. McFarland of Pelham, NY and Will Stroock and Bridgewater, NJ. His daughter, Caroline, predeceased him in 2014. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 8 from 5pm to 8pm at Frank E. Campbell "The Funeral Chapel," 81st St. and Madison Ave. Funeral Service will be on Friday, March 9 at 11:30am. Interment to follow at Ferncliff Cemetery, Hartsdale, NY. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Covenant House and The United Negro College Fund.
