Author of 'You Are Not Alone' and 'A Change of Heart' and the former wife of Senator John Kerry. Ms. Thorne struggled with depression for much of the 1980's, and founded a nonprofit education foundation, the Depression Initiative. She met Mr. Kerry in 1963 when he was a Yale classmate of her brother. They married in 1970. Divorced in 1988 but remained friendly, and she supported his 2004 presidential campaign. Her father had a diplomatic post in Italy where she spent her childhood, later attending the Foxcroft School in Middleburg, Virginia and after graduating, took classes at the New York School of Interior Design and Radcliffe College. She married Richard J. Charlesworth in 1997 and they lived in Bozeman, Montana.
