Actress. She was an American actress of the 1920s and 1930s, who is credited with at least 27 films. Her starting roles were in the silent film era, with six of her films being lost to time. Born Evelyn Jean Lederer, her parents were Austrian-German Jewish immigrates. Taking the stage name of "Sue Carol," she was a 20-year-old when she entered the film industry with a bit part role as a girl in the silent film "Soft Cushions" in 1927. This film is listed as lost. Directors liked the way she took instruction and gave her a more substantial part later that year in "Slaves of Beauty", which followed with roles in three films in 1928. Although she was considered a very beautiful and competent actress, she did not land the leading roles of her contemporaries. After a four-year hiatus, her last film was in 1937, "A Doctor's Diary" with a minor role. When her acting career ended, she became a talent agent. She married four times: Allen Keefer, Nick Stuart, Harold Wilson, and Alan Ladd. With her second husband, Stuart, an actor, she had a daughter, Carol. Her children with Ladd, a successful actor, were a daughter, Alana Ladd, and a son, David Ladd, who both had a film career. David's wife, Cheryl Ladd, is remembered for her role on the 1970s television series, "Charlie's Angels." Her oldest daughter Carol used the surname of Ladd. After being a widow for eighteen years, she died from heart failure. For her contributions to the film industry, she received posthumously on September 8, 1982 a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and a Golden Palm Star at the Palm Springs Walk of Stars on January 24, 1998.
