Peter Blatchford, 86, resident of Edmonton for the past 44 years and one of the best-known old-timers in northern Alberta, died Thursday after a long illness.
He was the father of the late Kenneth A. Blatchford, three times mayor of Edmonton, who died in 1933.
Mr. Blatchford was born in Lindsay, Ont. He moved to Edmonton in 1898 as a steam engineer.
He was a life member of the Northern Alberta Pioneers’ and Old-timers’ association and one of its oldest members, said J. A. McCool, secretary.
Mrs. Blatchford died in Edmonton July 16, 1941.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. M. L. Cunningham in Vancouver and two sons, Norman J., in Edmonton and W.H. in Calgary.
Acting Wing Cmdr. Howard Blatchford of the Royal Air Force is a grandson. The distinguished airman was among those mentioned in the King’s honors list last New Year’s as having been listed in dispatches.
Among other grandchildren are Lieut. James Blatchford, with the Canadian army overseas, and Mrs. J.C. Barford in Edmonton.
Funeral services will be held in Howard and McBride’s chapel Monday at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. J. MacBeath Millier of First Presbyterian church officiating. Burial will be in the Edmonton cemetery. Edmonton Journa., 3 Apr 1942, Friday
