George Fitzhugh McFarland, 85 , of Alvin, (former of George West)died Tuesday, May 20, at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown.
Mr. McFarland was born in Kenefic, Oklahoma, on Dec. 3, 1917. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a retired truck driver employed by the Texas Highway Department, and was a member of the VFW and Alvin Senior Citizens.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Agnes McFarland, in 1997.
Survivors include a son, Johnny McFarland of Alvin; four sisters, Virginia Baugh of Garland, Verta Ree William of Pleasant Hill, La, Cleda (Smithy) Smith of George West, Lela (Floyd) Baugh of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a brother Harvey Ross McFarland Jr. of George West; two grand daughters, Kelly (Clifford) McCrummen of Alvin and Kim (Chris) Hays of Seabrook; a grandson, Craig McFarland of Alvin; two great grand daughters, Kara Rosser of Alvin and Kayla Hays of Seabrook; two great grand sons, Allen Rosser of Alvin and Christopher Hays Jr. of Seabrook; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held today, (Wednesday) from 5 to 8 p.m., at Scott Funeral Home and Chapel in Alvin. Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at 2 p. m. at Galloway Funeral Home Chapel in George West, with the Rev. Bruce Irving officiating. Burial will follow at George West Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Craig McFarland, Clifford McCrummen, Bob Carpenter, Richard Moncrief, Allen Rosser and Allen Brenecky.
