He was born February 18, 1931 in Fairmont, WV, the son of the late James Clifford Ammons and the late Muriel Agnes (Jones) Ammons.
Bob was a 1950 graduate of Morgantown High School and a proud member of the MHS band. He traveled around the world while serving in the United States Navy on the USS Guyett. Bob was a member of the Westover VFW. Other affiliations included membership in the University Church of Christ and the Westside Senior Center where he especially enjoyed playing the upright bass during Friday night jam sessions.
Bob retired as a machinist from Eastman Kodak, Rochester, NY.
He is survived by his children; Mark Allen Ammons, Sharon Kay Agnello, Marla Dawn Whitmore, all of Rochester, NY, and Amber Jeanine Gerbich and husband Willam of Surfside, SC; three sisters, Jane Nabors of Salem, WV, Janet Nabors of Port Orchard, WA, and Sally Melatti and husband, John of Lompoc, CA; his brothers Jack and wife Mary Ammons of Westover, WV, and Frank and wife Clorinda of Morgantown, WV. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Schumacher Ammons, his brothers James Ammons and John Thomas Ammons.
Cremations services will be provided by Hastings Funeral Home. Memorial and graveside services will be held at a later date to be announced.
