Sam Sebastiani Jr. was the son of Sam Sebastiani Sr. and his former wife, Barbara Leedom. He was the grandson of August Sebastiani, who built the family business -- founded by his father Samuele -- into one of the most powerful winemaking enterprises in California. Sebastiani Jr. was considered to be a free spirit among the sprawling winemaking clan.

Sebastiani Sr. at one time operated the family's Sebastiani Vineyards winery in Sonoma, but 10 years ago ventured out on his own, establishing Sonoma's Viansa Winery, which he operates with his wife, Vicki.

Viansa Winery spokesman Michael Coats said the family wishes that people consider participating in an organ donor program in memory of Sam Jr. "There are not enough organs," said Coats. "That dot you can put on your driver's license is very, very important."
