Michael William Nahlen, 69 Posted: Tuesday, July 28, 2015 11:06 am Michael William Nahlen, 69, of Winchester, Kentucky, passed peacefully on Friday, July 24. He was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, Nov. 7, 1945, of William Bill Michael Nahlen and Otillia Tillie Theresa Seiter Nahlen. He is survived by his spouse, Charlotte 'Charli' Phillips Nahlen, and three beloved stepchildren, Tim, Angela and Daniel Hooper of Winchester, Kentucky. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, retiring after 23 years of service. He served his country proudly from Sept. 1, 1965 to Feb. 15, 1987. He served on board USS Cochrane, DDG-21, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, through three WESTPAC cruises during Vietnam. He received the Combat Action Ribbon, along with several other medals and commendations. He also served with OCEANOUNIT TWO on board USNS Dutton, Tags-21, NAS Kingsville, Texas (at NALF Orange Grove, Alice, Texas), USS L.Y. Spear, AS 36, GEMD NAS Norfolk, Virginia, NSC NUWPNSUPDEPT, Norfolk, Virginia, USS Edward McDonnell FF-1043 Mayport, Florida and Sima, Mayport, Florida. Michael was a life member of the VFW, American Legion, DAV and National Rifle Association. He was also a 3rd degree in the Knights of Columbus. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and infant son William Russell Nahlen. He is survived by siblings, Anita (Jim) Louise Castleberry, Joan Elizabeth Nahlen, Patrick Charles Nahlen, Carmen Lorraine Long, all of Little Rock; and several nieces and nephews. Michael was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winchester, Kentucky. Funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winchester at a later date. A memorial service will be in Conway, Arkansas, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Aug. 3. In lieu of flowers, Michael wished for donations to be made to St. Agatha Academy, Winchester, Kentucky.
