US Soldier killed at the Fetterman Massacre. Pvt Aarons served with Company C, 18th US Infantry. Aarons was killed at the Fetterman Massacre. Soldiers killed with Fetterman were first buried at Ft Phil Kearny. After the fort closed, post burials were moved in 1905 to the Custer Nat'l Cemetery. Fetterman's men were buried in graves marked Unknown and are numbered 15-49 & 108-144.Pvt.; "C" Co., 2nd Batt., 18th U.S. Inf.

I Certify That Henry E. Aarons of Captain James Powell's Company "C" of the 18 Regiment of U.S. Inf., born in Scisilly(sic) aged 18 years, Five feet 8½ inches high, Florid complexion, Hazel eyes, Dark hair, and by profession a File Maker, was enlisted by Capt Cutts at New York on the Twentieth day of March, eighteen hundred and Sixty six, to serve for three years, and was killed by Indians at Peno Creek, four miles distant from this Post, while with a Party under command of Bvt Lt Col Fetterman, 18th US Inf. Killed 21 Dec 66.

When the remains from Fort Phil Kearny arrived in 1905 at Custer Battlefield National Cemetery for reburial the cemetery register listed 97 "Unknown US Soldiers," and 9 named. Henry Aarons is most likely one of the unknown reburials.
