Funeral services were held last Thursday morning at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines for William Slattery who died Tuesday at Broadlawns Hospital after being struck by a street car the week before. Burial was in Des Moines.
Mr. Slattery, 79, was born at Harper, IA in 1865. He moved to a farm near Varina about 30 years ago and has lived in the Varina & Fonda community most of the past 30 years. He was a faithful member of the Catholic church and fortified by the last rites of the church. He was returning from church when the accident occurred.
He is survived by his wife, two sons, James & Francis, and two daughters, Mrs. Pete Breon of Ames & Mrs. Ernest Baker of Pomeroy.
