On 8/6/1861 he mustered into "K" Co. PA 23rd Infantry
He died of wounds on 6/1/1864

He was shot and mortally wounded at the Battle of Cold Harbor on June 1, 1864 and died June 11, 1864.
Private Aaron C. Van Fleet Company K, 23rd Pennsylvania Volunteers. Born to Ann Vanfleet.Enlisted on 8/6/1861 as a Private. He was mustere into the 23rd PA at the Skuykill Arsenal on August 6th 1861. He was sent with the Regiment to Camp Graham in Washington D.C for the defences of Washington. In March 1862 he participate in the Battles on the Pennisula followed later in the year at Fredericksburg. In 1863 he was at Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and Mine Run. In 1864 The Regiment guarded Prisoners at Johnsons Island in Sandusky Ohio. The men found themselves back in the thick of Battle in June 1864 when they were engaged at Cold Harbor, the 23rd's deadliest battle. Aaron was mortally wouned there and sent home to New Jersey. He ie of his wounds on June 11th 1864.
