John was the son of Erastus and Hannah Huntley. John, along with his brother George and sister Idelet were baptized on July 4, 1858 at East Lyme, Connecticut. John married on September 26, 1878 in East Hartford, Connecticut to Jane C. Raynor. John and Jane had a daughter, Winifred Isabelle Huntley (1884-1962), she was the wife of Edgar Drinkwater. The 1880 Census lists John as a harness maker and Jane as a dress maker.
John's grave is listed on page 62 of The Hale Collection of Cemetery Inscriptions for Old Saybrook, Connecticut, 712-2, Junction Cemetery.
