William McMillan Rogers was born in Oxford, Mississippi to William Rogers and Juliette (Frierson) Rogers. He grew up in Starkville and graduated from Mississippi A. & M. at Starkville. He was awarded the Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University and graduated there in 1914. He served in World War I as a captain and then major for the Army's 82nd Division. He was decorated with the Order of the British Empire for his work in England post-armistice.

He practiced law with the Birmingham firm of Bradley, Baldwin, All & White. In 1935 he joined Birmingham Electric Company as president and chairman of the board and retired in 1948 due to illness.

William Rogers married Lydia Eustis on April 22, 1925 at the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Birmingham, Alabama. They had two children; William "Wayne" McMillan Rogers, III and Loula Rogers. His son, Wayne Rogers, would go on to a career in acting, most famous for his role as Trapper John in the television series M*A*S*H.

Funeral services Friday at 10:30 a.m. from the residence , Rt. 13, Cahaba Road, Dr. John Turner officiating, interment Elmwood Cemetery. Johns directing.
