Dr. John "Jack" H. Dettweiler, age 82, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2002.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Susie Dettweiler of Albuquerque, NM, sons, Jack Dettweiler Jr. and his wife, Terry of Albuquerque, NM and Eric Dettweiler and his wife, Lisa of Albuquerque, NM daughter, Terry Ann Dettweiler and granddaughter, Eva Dettweiler all of Albuquerque, NM.
Jack was born on April 28, 1920, to William E. Dettweiler D.D.S. and Helen B. Dettweiler. Jack grew up in Washington D.C. with his brother, Bill, and sister, Helen, one of the founders of the Ladies Professional Golf Association.
Dr. Dettweiler graduated from Georgetown Prep School where he played football and was captain of the Golf and Rifle Teams. Jack received his B.S. degree from Georgetown University and his M.D. from Georgetown University Medical School. Jack completed his internship and residency at D.C. General Hospital, and taught Clinical Medicine at the University of Arkansas Medical School.
In 1948 he moved to Albuquerque, NM and began his private practice. While he found time for golf, fishing, hunting and gardening, his dedication was to his medical practice, and he always practiced it the way he felt it should be done. Jack was available seven days a week and made house calls until the day he retired. Jack was Past President of the Bernalillo County Medical Society and Four Hills Country Club.
His philosophy was: Always be thankful for what you have and never complain about what you don't have. If you want something bad enough, the good Lord has given you the talents and energy you need to acquire it.
A memorial rosary will be recited on Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM.
