He was a 29 year old police officer, from Grand Rapids,Mi, who was responding to a domestic violence call when he was shot and killed in a ambush by Jeffrey VanVels.Officer Robert A. Kozminski, aged 29, of Grand Rapids, beloved father, son, brother, uncle and grandson gave his life in the line of duty Sunday, July 8, 2007 protecting those he served. He is survived by the love of his life, his daughter, Kailey Ann; mother and father, Maria and Richard; his brothers and sisters of whom he was the youngest, Kristen (Tom) Mahoney, Amy (Lenni) Haisma, Daniel Kozminski, Nicole (Jerre) Coretti, Lt Cmdr David (Jeannie) Kozminski USN, Andrew (Jocelin) Kozminski; grandmothers, Maria Ruth Chassee and Josephine Kozminski; 17 nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles and cousins; the mother of his daughter, Heather and special friend, Mandy. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, James Chassee and Benedict Kozminski and uncle, Daniel Chassee. He served the citizens of Grand Rapids for seven years as a police officer with Grand Rapids Police Department and he was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 97.
