Thomas Arthur Cody, 20, of Mattoon, Illinois, formerly of Minneapolis, MN passed away Sunday afternoon, September 15th, 2019 in his home. Thomas was born February 20, 1999 in Minneapolis, MN. He graduated from Hutsonville High School in May of 2017. Thomas was passionately interested and quite knowledgeable about history, sports, literature, and cinematography. He could recite statistics surrounding any given player in baseball, basketball, or football in the past ten years to the entire royal bloodline of the French monarchy for the past five hundred years. Thomas was a smart man, coupled with a heart of gold, and a sense of humor tailored to make anyone smile. He was a beloved son, grandson, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend to many. Surviving are his father Rev. Dr. John (Dianna) Cody of Mattoon, IL; mother Melissa (Juan) Orruego of Springfield, IL; 12 siblings: Rachelle (Brian) Lytle-Hileman of Springfield, IL, John Cody of Minneapolis, MN, Christian Cody of Minneapolis, MN, Kevin Cody of Minneapolis, MN, Paul Cody of Minneapolis, MN, Brian (Julie) Cody of Minneapolis, MN, Matthew Cody of Minneapolis, MN, Seth Cody of Minneapolis, MN; half-brothers Ian Cousins of Springfield, IL, and Lucas Orruego of Springfield, IL; step-brother William Hickey of Champaign, IL, and step-sister Joanna (Keeze) Carver of Moonshine, IL; as well, as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Services will be held at the Christian Church—200 S. Walnut, West Union, IL—on Sunday September 22, 2019. Visitation will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, followed by a memorial service. In lieu of flowers or memorials, financial donations can be made out to Schilling Funeral Home to defray memorial service costs.
