May 19, 1945 ~ July 15, 2019

Longtime Delta resident Deborah A. VanDelinder Doherty passed away on Monday, July 15, 2019 at Delta County Memorial Hospital. Debbie was 74 years of age.

A memorial service in her remembrance will be held on Saturday, July 20, at 3:00 p.m., at the Taylor Funeral Service Chapel in Delta. Interment will take place in the Delta City Cemetery.

Deborah VanDelinder was born on May 19, 1945 in Escanaba, Mich. to Lorenz A. and Pauline L. Johnson VanDelinder. At the age of 8 she and her family moved to Albuquerque, NM. Debbie graduated from Sandia High School in Albuquerque in 1963, attended University of New Mexico and also received a teaching certificate through Western State College in Gunnison, Colo. She had been a resident of Delta County since 1973. She was of the Bahai' faith.

Over the years Debbie served as a school teacher, a freelance writer, a private music teacher and a retail clerk.

Debbie was founder of the Multi-Cultural Festival for 9 years and was a part of both the Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Chorus for many years.

Debbie loved singing, and played many instruments including the piano and guitar. She enjoyed teaching children, loved to visit with friends and family, was a voracious reader, and it was her goal to bring people together in unified action.

Among her survivors are her husband, William R. "Dick" Doherty of Delta; three daughters: Sine Doherty of Delta; Elin Kambuga (Dominic) of Evanston, IL; and Corrine Doherty of Long Beach, NY; brother John VanDelinder of Sacramento, CA, and sisters: Marti Bitts of Littleton, CO; and Marian VanDelinder of Albuquerque; along with two nephews Ruben Bitts and Nathan VanDelinder and one grandchild Jamila Kambuga.

Her parents preceded her in death, along with her brother Steven VanDelinder.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
