Alice Winston Alexander Conner 10/6/1914 - 1/4/2009 Mrs. Conner, 94, died peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2009 at Southminster, Inc. in Charlotte, NC. Alice was born on October 6, 1914 in Charlotte, NC and is the daughter of the late Thomas Willis Alexander of Charlotte, NC and the late Alice Winston Spruill Alexander of Rocky Mount, NC. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Charles ("Chuck") Horace Conner (originally of Rye, NY), and three brothers, Thomas Willis Alexander of Raleigh, NC, Frank Spruill Alexander of Charlotte, NC, and Sydenham Benoni Alexander of Tuscaloosa, AL. Alice is survived by three children, Winston Conner Paschall and her husband Rev. Dr. Fred W. Paschall, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Charles H. Conner, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Telluride, CO, and Alexander N. ("Nick") Conner and his wife Lauren of Norfolk, VA. Alice's six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren are: Michael A. Paschall of Charlotte, NC, and his wife Haynes who have three children; David S. Paschall of Lookout Mountain, GA and his wife Kelly who have two children; Dr. John S. Paschall of Asheville, NC and his wife Jeanie have four children; Lindsay A. Conner of Charlotte, NC; Bryan B. Conner and his wife Sally of Durham, NC; and Andrew ("Drew") L. Conner of Norfolk, VA. Alice graduated from Central High School, Charlotte, NC in 1931, St. Mary's School, Raleigh, NC, in 1933, and Smith College, Northampton, MA in 1935. She worked as a model in New York, NY and after marrying Chuck Conner settled in Charlotte, NC in the early 1940's. Alice served as a nurse's aide during World War II, was a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, was a former President of the Junior League of Charlotte, was a former President of the Charlotte Debutante Club, was the founder and first Chairman of the Altar Guild at Southminster, Inc. and was an honorary member of Charlotte Country Club. Additionally, Alice spent twenty-five years in the antiques business and was manager of the Plantation House in Belmont, NC. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Harry and Bryant. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 12, 2009 followed by a reception in the Blue Room.
