INJURED 2 YEARS AGO, N. F. ROBERTS, 44, DIES
---------------------
Southern Railway Engineer Hurt in Wreck at McDonough; Well Known Here
-------------------
Injuries received more than two years ago when his locomotive engine turned over in a train wreck at McDonough, Georgia, Newton F. Roberts, 44, engineer on the Southernn Railway caused his death Monday afternoon at his home at 1627 Orlando Street. He was the brother of Lieutenant S. J. Roberts, of the Atlanta Polic Department.

Mr. Roberts was hurt two and a half years ago when his engine crashed into a row of box cars on a side track in McDonough, after a switch had been thrown open by a negro man, who later was sentenced to prison. All members of the train crew were hurt, but severe injuries about the head had confined Mr. Roberts to his home since the wreck. He had been seriously ill for some time.

A native of Hall County, Mr. Roberts was born near Flowery Branch and came to Atlanta as a youth. He was for eight years a member of the Atlanta police department, and had been with the Southern Railway since 1912. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and of the Capitol View Baptist Church.

The funeral will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning at the Capitol View Baptist Church, and the pastor, the Rev. W. Lee Cutts, will officiate. Members of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers will have charge of the services at the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery.

In addition to his brother, Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife; a daughter, Miss Mary Frances Roberts; a son, Newton F. Roberts Jr.; another brother, A. J. Roberts, and six sisters, Mrs. A. S. Kiassett, prominent here in the affairs of the Order of the Eastern Star; Mrs. A. F. Duncan, Mrs. A. Olsen, Mrs. W. O. Anderson, Mrs. A. S. Bruggeman, off of Atlanta, and Mrs. A. t. Strickland of Miami, Florida. J. Austin Dillon in charge.
