From The Ogden Standard-Examiner (Ogden, UT) - Wednesday, September 25, 1940:
Word was received today by relatives of the death of Charles William Middleton, 85, Tuesday in Los Angeles from infirmities of age.
He was born in Ogden June 17, 1855, the son of Charles Franklin and Martha C. Browning Middleton. He spent his early life in Ogden where he attended the Moench school. Later he drove the first mule street car ever operated in Ogden on May 15, 1884. On October 25, 1875 he married Deseret L. Newman in the Salt Lake Endowment House. He was active in the LDS Church.
After leaving the street car employment he became an interior decorator contracting work in Ogden and Salt Lake City. He retired from this business 20 years ago. In 1914 he moved to Los Angeles.
Surviving are his wife, Deseret, of Los Angeles; five children, William A. Middleton and Louis N Middleton, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Josephine Gallagher, San Diego; Miss Rae Middleton, San Francisco; Mrs. Pearl Doge, Los Angeles; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Reuben J., James L., and Joseph W. Middleton, all of Ogden; Jonathan F. Middleton, Burley, Idaho; Mrs. Rachel M. Jensen and Mrs. Zina L. Stephens, Ogden; Mrs. Minnie M. Couch, Los Angeles.
The body will arrive in Ogden Thursday evening. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the Rose Room of the Deseret Mortuary. Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery.
