John Louis Schoenecker Jr was the son of John and Angela Purcell Schoenecker,, Sr. He was a graduate of the Vincentian Institute and spent 3 years at Siena College before joining the US Marine Corps after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He served in the battles of Guadalcanal, New Guinee and New Britain. At Guadalcanal he was the supply sergeant for "Chesty" Puller of the 1st Marine Division. John was the recipient of the Presidential Unit Citation. After leaving the Marine Corps he worked for the Federal Government for 35 years. John is survived by two siblings, two children, six grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. His wife, Margaret died before him.
