Musician. Born in Georgetown, Kentucky, he was an early western music pioneer known as a raconteur and fiddler. He is most noted for composing the popular fiddle tune "The Arkansas Traveler", which was the State song of Arkansas from 1949 to 1963. He also served as a Captain in the Confederate States Army in the Trans-Mississippi Theater of the American Civil War. Faulkner County, Arkansas, is named in his honor.
