Obituary for Bobby Mentz

MENTZ III, Robert J. – 54, of West Cape May passed away on April 3, 2018. Bobby was a longtime resident of the Cape May area and graduated from Lower Cape May Regional High School in 1981 where he played on their football team. Bobby was well known in the Cape May area having tended bar over many years at Cape May's finest establishments including The C-View, The Mad Batter and most recently, Harry's Bar and Grill. A bartender by profession, Bobby was very proud of his commitment to sobriety over the past three and a half years. Bobby made the best Bloody Mary's at Harry's and it was his own unique recipe. The simple things were not overlooked by Bobby, he always acknowledged customers and friends alike with a genuine smile. He had a kind heart but had a way of hiding that part! He was a friend to the end with a sense of humor that will surely be remembered. A sports enthusiast, but football was his favorite. He is predeceased by his dad, Robert, Jr. (2006). Bobby is dearly missed by his family which includes his mother, Elizabeth "Betty" Mentz; sister, Lisa (and Robert) Diehle; nieces, Heather and Kelly Diehle; extended family and many lifelong and dear friends. Bobby's viewing will be on Wednesday (April 11th) from 10am until 12pm in the Spilker Funeral Home, Cape May where a time of sharing thoughts and memories will be offered by family and friends beginning at 12 noon. Interment is private and at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Bobby's niece, Kelly, is "expecting" her son to be born on approximately the same date as Bobby's birthday this year. Bobby had a very special love and devotion to his nieces and in his honor contributions will be accepted by his family to benefit this "new and cherished life." For convenience and notification purposes contributions can be easily made to benefit Bobby's great nephew through "In Memory Of," online at www.inmemoryof-memorial.org/bobby-mentz
