Myrtle Lee Curtis Lynch, retired R.N., passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 at her residence at the age of 100 years.

The daughter of the late Morris Curtis and Catherine McCullough Curtis, Myrtle was born on June 17, 1918 in Monroe County, Tennessee near Madisonville. Her family moved to Vonore, Tennessee and she was raised and educated there graduating from Vonore High School. She then attended and graduated from Hiwassee College in May of 1939 with an Associate Degree. She has a Permanent Professional Teaching Certificate in the State of Tennessee. She has college credits from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and Memphis State University.

She received her R.N. from Baptist Memorial Hospital, School of Nursing located in Memphis, Tennessee in 1949. She practiced as a R.N. in the State of Oklahoma at Cushing Regional Hospital for 35 years and served as the Director of Nursing for 25 years. She served as Head Nurse, and In-service Educational Director for 4 years. She taught school at Monroe County Elementary for seven years, and was principal of Toqua School for four years, which is still there on her father’s farm land, and is now a community center.

Myrtle met Robert T. Lynch while he was in engineering school in Memphis, Tennessee and the couple married on June 21, 1949 in Vonore, Tennessee. The couple came to Cushing, Oklahoma in July of 1949, where Myrtle had a job waiting on her at the Cushing Regional Hospital. She retired on her 65th birthday, June 17, 1983.

For many years she was an active member of the Council Valley Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher and helping out with the church in any way she could. She volunteered for the Cushing Hospital Auxiliary, serving as President for two years and receiving her pin for volunteering over 5,000 hours. She had served on the Valley Hope Alcohol Treatment Center; served on the original planning committee to open Central Vo Tech LPN course; was active with district nursing organizations; also her NARFE AARP Chapter set up and audited 40 sessions of their mature driving courses and was always watching peoples driving habits. On her 97th birthday, she was honored by the Cushing Mayor and that day was proclaimed as the Myrtle Lynch Day.

She loved her family, her nursing profession and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her sons, Bob Lynch of Cushing, Oklahoma, Tom Lynch and his wife Pam of Stillwater, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Jennifer Lynch; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her six siblings.

A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the Yale Assembly of God Church with Brother Randall Newby and Brother Johnathan Scroggs officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Council Valley Baptist Church, the Yale Assembly of God Church or to Physicians Choice Hospice.
