Tribute to Arthur McCleery

By the death of Arthur McCleery at the Cottage State hospital, Mercer, on November 5, 1911, the citizens of Delaware township and surrounding community have lost a worthy citizen, a good neighbor, a man of genial and kindly disposition, without an enemy, or even one who would speak a harmful word of him. Left to regret their loss are one brother, James. O., of Livingston, Montana, his three sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Wagner, Mrs. Herman Ealy, both of Delaware township, and Mrs. Ninetta Artman of Juniata Co., Pa., his wife and three daughters, Marie, May and Alice. He was a son of Joseph and Elvira McCleery, both late of Delaware township. Arthur G., who was the oldest, came into possession of the parental home. He was born in 1857; services were conducted by Rev. Secrest of Meadville, Pa. Interment in Millbank cemetery, Fredonia. He was a good man, may he rest in peace, his work is done, his race is run, he has gone to his reward and it will be what an impartial judge knows to be right. Earth and the Great Spirit have only claimed their own. Gone to thy rest, thy freed spirit safe in the keeping of the eternal, that knows and rules the destinies of all. Mr. McCleery was a man of liberal thought, broad in his scope of moral vision, with charity for all denominations and sects. He was a member of the Unitarian faith.

Neighbors, we think of him as dead, not so, his life was pure, hence co-eternal with his maker. He is safe from all mortal care, so let us turn our attention to the bereaved wife and family in this their sad hour of sorrow knowing that they have lost a safe counsellor, a good husband and a kind and loving father.

Married Louise Sarah (Rodemoyer) Melvin circa 1901/1902; she had three children by a previous marriage to Sylvester Melvin
