Clarence was born 18 Aug, 1878 in Clay, Bridgewater, Iowa to the parents of James T and his wife Nancy J Hulford (Lewis)

Some of the family moved to Olmstead, Minnesota after having been born in Iowa, his wife Myrtle Loella Bates Lewis that he married at the age of 22 on 18 August, 1900 could not take the humidity in Mn. So for health reasons they went to Colorado to live. The dry air they have in Colorado helped with the Arthritus that she suffered from for 17 years. They had one daughter and three son's. Florence, Howard who was born in 1904 and passed 1904, Harold, and last son Raymond who served in the Army with the 893rd Tank Destroyer Battalion.

His wife passed in Arvada, Colorado in 1941, 16 years before her husband. He then went back to Minnesota after his wife's passing and passed in Olmsted, Mn. on 16 July 1957. His body was shipped back to Colorado to be buried with his wife in the Arvada Cemetery in Arvada, Colorado.
