Son of John Harvey Childress and Rebecca Jesse.

First married to Elizabeth Ashbrook, daughter of Hiram Mouse Ashbrook and Malissa Kiser. Thomas and Elizabeth wed on September 26, 1889 in Russell County, Virginia.

Second married to Mary D. (maiden name unknown) Childress. Mary is documented in 1930 US Federal Census as wife to Thomas. She is also named as wife on his death certificate.

Note: Death certificate does not specify that Thomas was to be buried in the Purcell Family Cemetery. It is assumed because Thomas' sister Mary Leah Childress Purcell was married to Joseph Powell Purcell. Signed informant on his certificate is Mrs. J.P. Purcell (shaky signature). Burial on May 12. Mary died the following year (1936) and is laid to rest in the Purcell Family Cemetery. Their mother is also buried in this grave yard.
