William Armstrong Adams
Died, at his home in Danville, on the 21st in his home here William Armstrong Adams, after a lingering illness, from consumption. The deceased was born on Fishing Creek, in Pulaski County, this State, in 1818. At the age of 28 years he was married to Elisabeth Ashley. Eleven children were born to them, nine of whom are still living. When quite a young man Mr. Adams confessed the Savior and united with the Christian church at Sardis, in his native county. He continued a member of this congregation until his removal to Danville, when be attached himself to the church of the same faith here. During all the long years of his life as a church member be lived up to be full measure of his duty, and died in the blessed assurance of a peaceful rest beyond the grave. He was a very quiet, unostentatious man, and performed with scrupulous fidelity all the obligations of a good citizen, and a friend. His extreme kindness of heart led him to befriend others, and thus he was stripped of his property that would have made more comfortable his declining years. But no one ever heard him complain, or use a bitter word concerning his lot in life. The writer had frequent opportunities to meet him, and particularly during his last illness, and we have never known anyone to manifest more patience under affliction and to feel so much confidence that all was well. He was greatly blessed with a family of affectionate children, all of whom were with him in his last sufferings, and with tender solicitude ministered to every want his faithful companion, who had made the pilgrimage of life with him, was also permitted to see him pass peacefully to rest. May the influence of his kind and gentle spirit remain as a blessing to his family, and may his good name be appreciated by them as a priceless heritage, more noble and enduring than the wealth of earth.
