A PATHETIC MEMORIAL AT FRSERBURGH
A very touching memorial has been placed in Kirkton Cemetery, Fraserburgh, to mark the resting place of that young hero, the son of Colonel Dick Cunyngham, V.C., of the Gordon Highlanders. The inscription records how the brave little fellow lost his life in trying to save that of his companion, the Master of Saltoun. It is as follows:
"In loving memory of ST JOHN WILLIAM KEITH, only son of Lieut-Colonel Dick Cunyngham, V.C., Gordon Highlanders, aged 10 years and 10 months, who, on the 11th September 1897, was accidentally drowned in Fraserburgh Bay while gallantly rescuing a comrade.
"Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friend."
St John XV. 13"
The memorial is in the form of a white marble cross on three steps, and the grave is enclosed with a neat border of the same material. It is the work of Messrs Alexander Macdonald and Company, Limited, of the Aberdeen Granite Works.
