George Allen Garner

Early Life: George was born March 13, 1925, in Alamosa, Colorado, to Lewis Preston and Sarah Laura "Sally" Wilcoxon Garner, the third of six children. He moved with his family to Boulder City, Nevada, where his father worked as a U.S. Marshal during the building of the Hoover Dam. They moved back to Alamosa where George attended high school at Alamosa High School.

Life's Work | Service | Interests: George served 33 missions as a Ball Turret Gunner during World War II. After returning home, he signed up for the United States Navy and served in the Korean War. He later moved to Helper, Utah, where he met the love of his life. George married Lenora Mae Gordon December 12, 1952, in Elko, Nevada. George built a modest home in the river bottoms of Provo, Utah. Together they had eight children, 37 grandchildren, more than 66 great-grandchildren, more than 25 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. George worked for Union Pacific as a carman in the Provo and Geneva yards for 37 years. George Allen Garner, of Provo, Utah, passed away January 27, 2018. He was 92.

Family Message: "George was the patriarch of a very large extended family and was considered grandpa to many. George was a true Hero with a heart of gold."

Survived By: His children: Bill (Utah) Garner, Sally Hudson, Barbara Barnhart, Gordon Garner, Cindy Mellor, Heidi (Randy) Tucker; his brother, Louis Garner; and his posterity mentioned above.

Preceded In Death By: His wife, Lenora; his parents; daughter, Barbara Jean Good; son-in-law, Jim Good; son, James Garner; daughter-in-law, Marsha Garner; son-in-law, Steve Mellor; nine grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers.
