Born in Sweet Township, Pipestone County, MN, and long-time resident of Likely, CA, Walter Tyler Goodnow was employed by Brunnel Christensen Ranch in Likely, CA, as a rancher.

The sole survivor mentioned in the Reno Gazette-Journal front page death notice on 6 Sep 1960 is his sister, Mrs. L. C. Pelton [the wife of the physician, L.C. Pelton (Grace DeGraff (Goodnow) Pelton] of Seattle, Washington. His father, Charles Chapman Goodnow of Worcester, MA, had a land grant in Minnesota, and then lived in Fitzgerald, GA in 1900 where he was a manager in the saw mill where he lived with his wife and all other living children aged 11 to 24 besides Walter; and then he moved to Seattle, WA, where Charles C Goodnow died in 1905.

According to Walter's death certificate he was divorced, and his cause of death at 78 was a motorcycle accident that occurred on August 28, 1960. He was known as "Motorcycle Jack" by his acquaintances.

His siblings alive in 1900 and all born in Minnesota were: (Charlotte) Louise Goodnow born Sep 1875, Grace D Goodnow born Dec 1876, Ruth S Goodnow born Sep 1880, Merrill M Goodnow born Dec 1883, and Marion Goodnow born March 1889, in addition to two siblings who were deceased prior to the 1895 census. In the 1895 Pipestone, MN state census, Walter is listed with his parents and these siblings.
