Born August 2, 1931 in Franklin Township, he was the son of Alexander and Mary (Elcazychen) Karpo. He was a graduate of Onsted High School and later served our country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Fred was a life-long farmer and also worked at Ford Motor Company, Tecumseh Products, and Fry Mechanical. On July 27, 1957 he married Janice Elaine Peters in Tipton, and she survives.
Fred was active in 4-H and started the Tipton Team Workers Club. He had apple and peach orchards and was known at the Ypsilanti and Northville Farmers Markets for his pies, breads, cookies and jams.
In addition to his wife, Janice, he is survived by his children, Patricia Zeestraten of Twin Cities, Minnesota, Tobin (Jenny) Karpo of Tipton, and Stephen (Nancy) Karpo of Tipton; grandchildren, Anthony, Alexander, Mandy, Evan, and Autumn; three great-grandchildren Jordin, Ty, and Braelyn; and a sister, Helen Duffy of Liberty Center, MI.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Stella, Ann, and Bill; and a sister in childhood, Jenny.
Funeral Services for Fred will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Wagley Funeral Home, Adrian with Pastor Fritz Kruse officiating and military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #97 and VFW Annis Fint Post #1584. Burial will take place in Franklin Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from noon until the service at 1:00 p.m.
