Mrs. Leah V. Matney
Mrs. Leah Viola Matney, 82, 2861 Knollwood Court, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, at a Topeka hospital after a long illness.
She was born Sept. 25, 1900, at Scranton, the daughter of William and Frances Barraclough Bryden, and spent most of her life in Topeka. She was graduated from Topeka High School in 1918 and graduated with honors from Washburn College in 1922.
Mrs. Matney was a pianist and taught at Clay Center High School two years. She later was an actuary for Victory Life Insurance Co., in Topeka from 1924 until she retired after 42 years with the company. She also was a member of the board of directors for several years.
She was a member of University United Methodist Church and an honorary life member of the Washburn University Alumni Association.
She was married to William Raymond Matney July 9, 1954, at Topeka. He survives.
Other survivors include a sister, Mrs. Ella Tonar, Topeka.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. Entombment will be in Mount Hope Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to University United Methodist Church, 1621 College, 66604.
