He died alongside all of his crew-mates, flying in Aircraft: Lancaster I Lm304 on a Bombing Raid to Essen, Germany. The aircraft left base at 1900 hrs, but failed to return. Nothing was heard from it after takeoff. The Aircraft crashed near Mönchengladbach with all hands lost.
