Angelica N. Stelling, 20, of Graysville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Samuel J. Davis, 19, of Sale Creek, was transported by ambulance with a serious head injury.
Men working at a site nearby heard the impact of the accident and went to the scene. They called 911, and emergency personnel from the Dunlap Fire Department, Lewis Chapel Fire Department, the Sequatchie County Sheriff's Department, and Puckett EMS responded immediately. Firefighters worked for about 30 minutes, cutting the roof off the car and working to extract Davis from the badly damaged vehicle.
The Sheriff's Department requested a LifeForce helicopter, but it was unable to fly due to low cloud cover, so Davis was transported to the hospital by ambulance.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), Stelling was driving the 2004 Toyota Matrix eastbound on Lewis Chapel Road when she lost control in a curve and hit a tree between the first and second entrances to Snyder Loop.
