Dwayne George Aanerud, 64, died August 23, 2017 at his son’s home in Big Lake, Minnesota from cancer. His funeral visitation will be held on Monday August 28 from 4-7pm at the Peterson-Grimsmo Funeral Chapel; 250 East Broadway, Monticello with final internment at Fort Snelling in St Paul, Minnesota.

Dwayne “Sonny” was born on August 23rd 1953 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Marion and George Aanerud. He graduated from Vocational High School to pursue a career in the United States Navy. Shortly after joining the Navy he returned home to marry his sweetheart on May 10th, 1973. While in the Navy, Sonny has been around the world including an initial stationing in Okinawa, Japan to his career final assignment in San Diego, California. Much of Sonny’s career was spent aboard the USS Enterprise. Upon retirement Sonny and his family moved back to Minnesota, finally settling in Bradford Township – outside of Cambridge, Minnesota. Sonny continued to work at jobs ranging from truss manufacturing to construction of log homes until he fully retired. Always willing to help and volunteer with others in the family and community when he was able.

Sonny loved life and the thrills he could seek. He’s had many experiences and loves from: scuba diving, having his pilot’s license, water skiing (also with a single ski), roller coasters, parasailing, and skydiving. He enjoyed talking about and driving his antique cars and his motorcycle. He loved his man cave and the toys it offered to help him and those he knew.

He is survived by his wife Lorie, their children Aaron (wife Sonni), Bryan (wife Jennifer), Corry (wife Rose), Necole (husband Khamla) and nine grandchildren.
